Multidisciplinary atmospheric and environmental research company is seeking a Principal Scientist with a well-established national reputation in the field of environmental science and air quality to head its Air Quality Division located in San Ramon, CA. The ideal candidate will be peer recognized with the ability to manage a team of scientists and engineers, and the skills to conduct business development with a diverse group of clients from the public and private sectors. Responsibilities entail business development (interactions with existing clients, proposal writing, tracking emerging issues, anticipating business areas where future growth is likely to occur and identifying those areas where the group can outperform the competition), management of a wide range of projects (both research and applied studies), and administrative and financial oversight. General knowledge of the U.S. air quality regulations is necessary, including some understanding of how those regulations are likely to evolve over the next few years. Excellent written and oral communications skills are needed. The ability to communicate with scientists having diverse technical backgrounds (engineering, chemistry, meteorology, physics, software development) is key as the future evolution of the group will entail growing interactions with other groups of the company (e.g., meteorology, remote sensing, commercial products, climate, etc.) serving government, commercial, and defense community customers. An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in science or engineering is required.

The ideal candidate will be a successful sales rep with a passion for revenue growth, have general knowledge of the commodity trading sector and be comfortable selling highly innovative information and consulting services to fast paced financial services professionals. Knowledge of weather information products is not required - an aptitude for selling leading edge services to early adopters is.
Responsibilities include making customer calls, providing product demonstrations, writing proposals, working with our lead generation firm to qualify and generate new customers as well as managing relationships with existing ones. This is primarily an inside sales position that requires being based out of our Lexington, MA headquarters.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong technical ability and sales aptitude
- BS/BA degree and 4+ years experience
- Experience within the Energy, Financial and/or Insurance markets
- Proven ability to exceed sales quotas

Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER) has an immediate opening for a scientific programmer or research associate with strong computer skills, and a background in physics or engineering, to support multiple Department of Defense programs and commercial business applications in the broad magnetospheric geophysics and/or Space Weather fields. The work will include model development and validation, data analysis and visualization, and related tasks in a cooperative team environment. The individual will also participate in presenting results, writing scientific publications, and preparing proposals.
MS or BS (with 2-5 years experience) in physical sciences, engineering or physics. Solid computer skills required; programming in C++, Fortran and/or IDL and experience with the UNIX/Linux environment and scripting a plus. Desired skills include scientific data analysis and visualization, scientific algorithm development, modeling & simulation.

Applicants are sought to assist in the development of integrated systems to support multiple Department of Defense programs and commercial business applications, in both operational and research environments. The work involves participation in programs that include model development, real-time data assimilation, validation, and product development. The individual will also participate in presenting results and in writing reports and proposals. Candidates should have an MS or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience in atmospheric science, physics, mathematics, or a related field and solid computer experience with skill in web technologies, relational database, scientific visualization, and scientific algorithm development.
