Science that Maximizes Return on Investment (ROI) for Sensor Manufacturers

The accurate and cost effective design and development of sensor systems has become increasingly important in an era of complex systems and budgetary pressures. For nearly 30 years AER scientists have worked with sensor manufacturers to develop state-of-art ground-based, airborne and satellite instruments to solve real-world remote sensing problems. Regardless of the spectral region, sensor system design requires a detailed knowledge and understanding of processes within the Earth's atmosphere and oceans and how this geophysical information translates into what can be measured. AER tools provide a framework for analysis and solutions that help mitigate financial risk and exposure throughout the sensor lifecycle.

AER is uniquely qualified to assist in all aspects of the sensor lifecycle - from the design, development and optimization of sensor concepts, through testing and operational performance enhancement and radiometric calibration, to the validation and analysis of the measured radiometric and geophysical parameters. AER scientists are experts in atmospheric and oceanic modeling, including across-the-spectrum (ultraviolet through microwave) radiative transfer simulations, mesoscale meteorology forecast models, and complex air quality and turbulent dispersion modeling. Our models can be coupled to geophysical models and databases to provide an algorithm testbed specifically tailored to the sensor development program needs. This allows for robust sensor simulation, testing and validation against both simulated data and existing measurements and sensor systems. AER can also provide local meteorology forecasts for sensor tasking, as well as impact studies assessing the impact of space weather events on the sensor platform, instrumentation and communications.
