Government

At Atmospheric and Environmental Research (AER), we help governments better anticipate and manage threats and risks to their operations. Technologies developed and implemented by AER scientists and engineers assist government agencies to plan for and mitigate risks due to weather and climate-related events as well as provide critical insights into sensor performance and target detection capabilities.

Air Quality

AER’s Air Quality team assists government air quality agencies in the use, development, analysis, and validation of air quality models and datasets for tasks such as: State Implementation Plan (SIP) development; the verification of emission inventories for greenhouse gases and other pollutants; and air quality forecasting. Our scientists have expertise in photochemical, meteorological, emission, and dispersion modeling, including the use of inverse models and satellite observations to estimate air pollutant fluxes. Environment

AER is a world leader in environmental modeling and prediction. Many of our models and algorithms have become de facto international standards for sensing, simulating, modeling and predicting phenomena in the atmosphere, land, ocean and space. As environmental issues take on increasing significance and urgency for nations throughout the world, AER is able to apply our extensive research and development capabilities to address their critical concerns. Satellites for Weather and Environment

We are an integral participant in the world's most advanced weather satellite programs. We work with government and industry satellite/instrument teams to develop new ways to improve the science, speed and accuracy of space, solar and Earth-based weather data gathering, analysis and forecasting. More...

Target Recognition

AER’s Target Recognition and Advanced Exploitation (TRAX) team possesses expertise in a wide range of exploitation capabilities that transform data collected by sensor platforms into intelligence to achieve improved situational awareness of the battlespace. With demonstrated experience working with both airborne and space-based sensor platforms, TRAX’s primary focus is to support the US defense and intelligence communities in the development and application of target recognition capabilities for both strategic and tactical interests. Weather

For any nation, an understanding of weather and its impact is essential to everything from supporting agriculture to preparing for natural disasters. AER has supported these needs by enabling earlier, more accurate weather warnings that reduce risks to populations and property and enable more effective emergency response. AER has worked for – and with – a wide range of government organizations throughout the world. More...

Climate

Increasingly, climate change is challenging society's resilience and adaptive ability. AER helps clients address many critical issues, including sea level rise, the availability and quality of water resources, oil exploration in the Arctic, and changes in the planet's climate systems related to the increase in greenhouse gases. More...

National Security

We've supported critical missions in national security for more than three decades by enabling warfighters and mission planners to operate, navigate and communicate, regardless of weather conditions. AER's expertise has been essential because clouds and atmospheric conditions have a direct and often severe impact on operations in the field. Our national security work includes longstanding joint development of proprietary technologies in remote sensing and numerical weather prediction with the U.S. government. More...

Space

Governments around the world have considered space of vital national interest for more than a half century, devoting resources to exploration and scientific research. AER is a key partner in government space research, with a particular focus on planetary atmospheres. More...
