Dr. Judah Cohen is a referenced expert on seasonal forecasting. The BBC article Met Office model 'better at predicting extreme winters' discusses improvements made in dynamical models used in seasonal forecasting, in particular the dynamical model employed at the UK Met Office. However Cohen points out that the models are still a long way from delivering accurate or skillful forecasts. Seasonal forecasts from statistical models such as those used at AER illustrated in the Geophysical Research Letters article A New Index for More Accurate Winter Predictions, still greatly outperform those from dynamical models.
